People’s COP Dialogue among Africans and Afrodescendants: Shared Struggles for Climate and Racial Justice

18 novembro : 10:15 am - 12:00 pm

Climate Justice cannot be separated from racial justice. The same systems that enriched a few through slavery, colonization, and extraction continue to shape today’s climate crisis. Across Africa and the Americas Black and Afrodescendant communities confront these intersecting legacies in the form of displacement, pollution, loss of ancestral lands, and exclusion from decision-making. From oil fields to plantations to carbon markets, the structures of exploitation have evolved but not disappeared, reproducing racial and colonial hierarchies that define who bear the costs and who profits from the climate crisis.

This People’s COP Dialogue brings together African and Afrodescendant movements to reflect on the racial dimensions of the climate crisis and to imagine pathways of solidarity and repair. Climate injustice is racial injustice, and true climate solutions must confront historical and structural roots, not reproduce colonial hierarchies through new “green” economies. Together, we will explore how racial and climate justice intersect and how movements across the Atlantic can strengthen ties of solidarity, advocacy, and cultural power in the struggle for reparations, racial and climate justice.
